The Society for the Preservation of the Montreal Bagel
After seeing a powdered-sugar-and-cinnamon-coated monstrosity labeled “Montreal-style” in a local Loblaws spinoff, the good denizens of the Chowhound forums started this Facebook group. The plan is to build a Bagelmobile complete with wood-fired oven, long paddles and honey water dip, and to drive cross-country to educate our citizens about what a REAL bagel is supposed to taste (and chew) like.
On a serious note, it’s about time Canada got some AOC-styled controls in place about such things. The issue of terroir isn’t just limited to Europe, as North America has so many distinct food and wine regions.
