Do you remember the smell of a new Star Wars action figure?
1978. When the action figures finally came out after that LONG wait (thankfully I never got that card that was the voucher for the action-figures-to-come). I remember having all of the original 12 figures…
- Luke Skywalker
- Han Solo
- Princess Leia
- Chewbacca
- C-3P0
- R2-D2
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Darth Vader
- Death Star Commander
- Imperial Stormtrooper
- Jawa
- Tusken Raider
And yeah, I took them out of the package, played with them, lost the accessories, and I seem to remember magic-markering C3PO to change his colour from vaguely gold metallic to vaguely green.
But what I remember most about them is how they had that smell of brand-new plastic, or vinyl, to them…
I also remember that my Apple IIe had its own particular smell when it warmed up…something I intrinsically associate with happy memories of playing Zork and programming in Applesoft Basic.
